Real Life Honeymoons: Amanda and Paul

We love this sweet honeymoon idea of Amanda and Paul's in the Maldives. Take a peak at their story...

The journey of thirteen hours to the Maldives became a distant memory when we arrived in paradise – all we could see was endless white sandy beaches and stars that light up the clearest of skies.

Each day we would wake up to a perfect blue sky, then dine in the main restaurant over a buffet breakfast. We spent the day sipping cocktails and snacking by the beach or snorkelling and just breathing in the clean, salty air. Now that we’re back to reality our tans may have faded somewhat but the memory of the sunsets and turquoise water will forever remain with us. It was the perfect place to fall in love all over again!

Real Life Honeymoons: Kiah and Scott

Here's some honeymoon inspiration for you. We love Scott and Kiah's hot honeymoon in Africa...

Kiah and Scott: Africa and Mauritius

Scott and I had different ideas for our honeymoon. I wanted to do something adventurous with spectacular landscape whereas Scott’s idea of a honeymoon was to lie on a beach with the bar in easy reach. So our solution was three weeks of touring South Africa and Victoria Falls and a safari before a relaxing stay on Mauritius.

After all the excitement of the wedding we arrived in South Africa to a four-day tour of Cape Town. Our next stop was Victoria Falls Safari Lodge in Zimbabwe, overlooking a waterhole where we would watch the amazing sunsets and wild animals. We then spent the next couple of days walking with lions, riding elephants, walking and flying over Victoria Falls, a sunset cruise up the Zambeze River and a traditional ‘Boma’ dinner. Taking a short plan ride into Sabi Sand Reserve, within the great Kruger National Park, we then arrived at our tented bungalow in the Savanna Private Game Reserve to find a romantic hot bubble bath and arrival drinks! Our guide Patrick helped us see all the animals on our wish list and a lot more, and made us feel part of the Savanna ‘family’.

After a couple of days in Johannesburg we finally flew onto Mauritius to relax on one of many private beaches, enjoy water sports, sail and snorkel. The last night we booked a romantic dinner at the restaurant and spent the night reminiscing about our adventure. We cannot recommend a safari/beach honeymoon enough.

Real Life Honeymoons: Andrew and Mattina

Andrew and Mattina: Greece, Spain and Turkey

Photo: Yaori Rose Photography
We chose these three countries because although we had been to Europe before we had never been to these three countries and ancient cities loaded with culture really excited us. Lots of people suggested a relaxing beach holiday but we have always been travellers not tourists and decided to use our amazing month’s honeymoon as an exploration of our relationship as well as these spectacular places.

Andrew and Mattina exploring ancient ruins
Exploring the ruins that famous figures such as Cleopatra and Alexander the Great visited was one of our highlights. Going to Troy in Turkey was amazing, we saw structures that were over 5000 years old and hopefully our love could outlast time just as these structures had!

Real Life Honeymoons: Carly and Jeff

Carly & Jeff: Whitsundays

Photo: Lakshal perera
We shared our honeymoon with 25 family and friends! Many guests had travelled all the way from Canada so we really wanted to show off this amazing country while they were here. We hired a large yacht (which specialised in SCUBA diving) and sailed around the gorgeous Whitsundays, everyone had an absolutely amazing experience with diving, snorkelling, exploring beaches, gorgeous sunsets and a few cheeky champagnes - Australia definitely impressed!

It’s impossible to spend quality time with everyone on your wedding day; having this crazy trip enabled us to relax and really catch up - we wouldn’t have had it any other way! (actually I lie, a private room onboard would’ve been MUCH better!)

See the Holidays for Couples Travel Directory for more information on how to plan your honeymoon to The Whitsundays.
