Real Life Wedding : Jacob + Laura

Bespoke Beauty! This intimate, bespoke wedding caught our eye in a big way. Taking inspiration from their leafy location, Jacob Abberfield and Laura Gault sourced handmade details and pretty vintage accessories to create a truly unique celebration. And those fabulous Miu Miu heels? A gift from groom to bride. Love.

The theme: Laura took on the planning role herself, working with “a simple theme to go with the Plantation idea, using trees and white, green, tan and black colours.” Poppies for Grace was a favourite online resource for gift cards, swing tags and postcards with recycled Kraft paper and a tree print. “I designed the rest of the invite by hand and printed directions and other details,” Laura says.

The details: Most of the eye-catching decorations – ribbons, candles, tissue paper pompoms, plush pears, ring plate, and 21 vintage Mason Ball jars – all came from hours of online research. “Etsy.com became my favourite site as I found a designer who hand makes home décor items (Le Pomme)” says Laura. “She made the linen pears with the words Live, Laugh, Love for our bomboniere which were placed on each bread plate.

Our favourite candles are Diptyque and keeping with the tree theme we purchased six with fragrances like new mown lawn, oak, and honeysuckle.” As a final touch, after scouring antique stores for a vintage blackboard to display the menu, Laura found an antique painter’s tressle which Jacob made into a blackboard. Genius!

Honeymoon: Jacob describes their Victorian honeymoon as “perfect ... we travelled to the Daylesford and Macedon Ranges region and stayed at Peppers Mineral Springs Retreat. It was beautiful and we went all out with spa treatments. The food and wineries, Hanging Rock, Holegate brewery, and a gorgeous lavender farm were all amazing and just a short drive away. We then went back to Melbourne for the weekend and just chilled out, wined and dined.”
